Let me tell you 5 simple tips that’ll help you improve your team’s performance significantly, when followed religiously.

1.   Your plans should be comprehensive: Make complete and methodical plans if you wish to get the desired results in coaching. Have a heart to heart discussion with the players when you sit down to discuss and decide the team’s objectives and the timelines to reach them. Goals not met within the time frames decided for them, get in the way of a team’s progress.

After finalizing the plan, do not deviate from it except for making a few changes, if needed. No matter how well made the plans may be they need changes due to sudden events.

2. Practice sessions should be thrilling and fun-filled: When designing a practice schedule for kids, give due importance to the fact that variety in drills and exercises does the trick. You can practice this rule in lot many ways. For example: encourage players to participate in games and activities for some time after practice so as to develop a feeling of team spirit in them.

3. Discipline and freedom work best together: Discipline in the team should be a priority for you as a coach. Nonetheless, the fact that it is freedom form unnecessary control that motivates the kids to religiously follow the rules. You should never undermine the importance of freedom and relaxation in teaching soccer.

Give the players sufficient time between the drills so that they can do their own stuff, interact with each other and simply relax. The concept of how to coach soccer also encapsulates a good idea to take them out on an excursion once in a while.

4. Be Supportive and tolerant: Always inspire the team to experiment on new things and when they make mistakes, be tolerant. Keep their activities under observation. If your intervention is necessary because the situation is out of control, correct it but without scolding the kids.

Bear in mind that when you retort, the kids feel intimidated and when you show compassion and encouragement, they feel motivated to do even better.

5.The balancing act: Training sessions are the best places to recognize player’s talent and develop soccer skills in them. It is well known that when we talk of a team, there are bound to be players of different calibers; the good, bad, and worst. It becomes your responsibility as a coach to make the best use of your good players in inspiring others.

Buddy your best players with the weak ones so that they play together and share tips even after the drills. It is also vital that they players do not feel that a comparison is being drawn between them.
