For hundreds of years people have been trying to figure out how to guarantee having a boy or girl. At the same time, others have tried to predict the sex of the baby already in the womb. This calendar is said to have been around for centuries with reports of its discovery dating back between seven hundred to a thousand years ago. They say it was created just for the royals and could guarantee a son in the family if the mother conceived in a certain month. The original calendar is reported to be at the Beijing Institute of Science today.

This pregnancy calculator is said to be based in Yin Yang and some swear by it. It requires knowing the month of conception and the lunar age of the mother upon conception. The tricky part is understanding and knowing the lunar age of the mother in order to get accurate results from the calendar.

The Chinese use a calendar that is lunar based and they believe that when you are born you are already one year old because they add the time you were in the womb onto your age. When Chinese New Year comes around, you gain another year to your age, even if you born just the day before that holiday. So a child that is born the day before that celebrated day will find themselves two years old on just their second day in the world.

The Chinese and the Western calendar have about a two months difference between them. February is when Chinese New Year falls, but the date is not set, so it can fall at anytime during that month. So some say to just add one year to your age to figure out your lunar age and others go online and use calculators to help determine their exact age at time of conception.

Once you have your lunar age and the month of conception, which is easy to deduce by going by your last period, you are ready to take a look at the sex of your future child. Many different sites will have graphs and Chinese calendars for you to use, down the left side is a list of ages and the top will be the months. When those two meet, you will see the sex of your child that is predicted.

With some cultures doing all they can to ensure a male child in the family, predictors like this are used religiously to help make that happen. And today the Chinese baby calendar isn’t only used by the Chinese, it is gaining popularity worldwide. It doesn’t matter whether you believe in that or not, it can be fun to check it out and see how accurate it is for you.
