Youth Soccer Drills:Uncover Heading Secrets
Has it ever occurred to you that head can be very effectively used in passing on the ball when it is still in the air? This does not hurt the player in any way if is it practiced correctly in the youth soccer drills.
In case your players have not performed this skill of heading before, start teaching them by using a deflated ball. This can be done by letting some air out of the ball so that it shrinks and becomes soft and supple for kids to play. Including heading skill in the kids soccer drills requires you to first teach them the basics of this skill before starting with the practice.
Teach the players to move along the ball in such a way that their body comes directly in front of the ball when they get in contact with it. Players should learn to maintain a clear view of the ball all the way in until it thumps their forehead.
Let the kids understand the significance of keeping an eye on the ball and watch it coming to them and going away from them. It they don’t know which way the ball is going or coming from, they risk getting hurt. In youth soccer practice, teach players to strike the ball with the forehead’s top-front part instead of the crown or temples.
A large number of youth soccer drills call attention to the movement involved in correctly handling the ball. Following are the two drills that have been explained for you:
Sitting and Knees: This youth soccer coaching drill involves just 2 players and a ball. One player needs to sit on the ground with the legs stretched out in the front. The second player should stand in front of the 1st one and throw the ball at a very low level towards him or her. The strategy behind this is that the person who hits the ball has to come forward to do it because the ball id thrown short.
Keep doing this activity with a player positioned with both knees on the ground. Then the player will have to bend forward to strike the ball. This drill has the effect of teaching the players to use their head in directing the ball.
Head out of Hands: You will need cones and a ball for each player in this drill. It requires the player to hold the ball with his hands and then knock the ball out of their hands by heading it. They should learn to alternatively move their head to the ball and then bring the ball to their head.
The cones can help the players learn heading to a particular location. The players learn proper handling techniques and accuracy for using the head to redirect the ball.
So now you know, using youth soccer drills, the players will learn to safely head the ball in a game without hurting themselves.
