Thrifty Auto Rental- The Right Spot To Rent The Auto

Clever names are common for car rental businesses.  Names like Alamo Auto Rental and Budget Auto Rental give renters the impression of low cost, a great deal, while names like Enterprise engender smart business.  But no name is better than that of Thrifty car rental.  People who manage money well are thrifty.  So when people are looking for cars to rent, there's no better decision than to save money, spend it wisely and only when necessary.  So get thrifty.

Thrifty Auto Rental was born in 1958.  It offered stock in the 1980's before being purchased by Chrysler in 1989.  It was later combined with Dollar, another car rental company.  Thrifty is a top known brand world-wide and one of the largest of the auto rental companies.  The majority of its fleet is, as expected, Chrysler cars including both Dodge and Jeep.

Thrifty operates some other car related businesses.  It's a car seller too, for its older fleet cars.  People use these cars for short stints, so many think they're abused.  While some cars are abused, the majority of the vehicles from a rental fleet like Thrifty's are well cared for.  These cars are cared for on a tight schedule, unlike used cars from private owners who often don't maintain them.  Furthermore, penalties for damage encourage rental car drivers to take extra special care of the car while in their charge.  Privately owned cars tend to be in worse shape than cars from rental fleets.

Thrifty also owns long term airport parking lots.  When people need a safe parking space while out of town, they turn to these long term parking lots.  Many airports have Thrifty parking lots near them.

Some other elements of Thrifty's past are interesting too.  Thrifty originally rented Volkswagen Beetles at a time when they weren't too common in the United States.  The Beetle cost $6 a day to rent.  In the wild and wacky 60's Thrifty took advantage of the general playboy mentality with Miss Thrifty.  She was a young, good looking woman who would shuttle customers to Thrifty's facilities near the airport.  She wore the plaid of the Scottish for some reason.

Thrifty car rental is an important business.  But it has a weird and wild side also.  They may give you a discount if you wear a plaid tie.
